What attracts Bees?

Bees, of which there are many species, are beneficial insects in a number of ways. For example, they’re pollinators, so they can help your garden flourish. It is not illegal to kill Bees in the UK, but eradication of the Bees would be a last resort if all other options to move the Bees safely has failed.

Bees are attracted to the sweet smell of nectar from flowers, but they can get confused from similar smells coming from your home and garden. This makes them more likely to explore your personal spaces during the warmer season, when more fresh fruit and sweet foods are present.

Some Bees will nest underground, others will be above ground and more obvious to spot. Bee nests can be located in lofts, air vents, garage, sheds and outhouses, trees and bushes. These types of environments can be found in abundance around cities like Nottingham. The nest is often hidden or sheltered inside a building and not visible. Look out for a large number of Bees gathering around a small entrance hole in one fixed location.

Will Bees just go away?

The lifespan of a nest and a swarm of Bees that occupy it varies on an individual basis, depending on the quality of the nest, and how well sheltered the nest is from the elements. We would not advise that you do not wait to contact one of our available technicians covering the Nottingham areas.

What will happen if a Bee nest is left untreated?

Leaving a Bee nest untreated will allow the swarm inhabiting the nest to increase in size, and the more Bees you have, the more of a nuisance they become!

Bee stings near the airways or a Bee sting that causes an anaphylactic shock can, in rare cases, be fatal. Ace Pest Control technicians are local to Nottingham, and are highly trained with nationally recognised qualifications which we can happily provide evidence on request.

A long term Bee problem can lead to physical damage to your property, including dry rot and mold and the risk of the nest being highly flammable.

Once you have discovered a Bee nest, it is important that you do not try to disturb or remove the nest yourself. The removal of the nest is not necessary as Bees will not likely return to an old nest, so the priority is to treat the nest with insecticide which will kill the nest within 24 hours.
